ILX has signed the Finance for Biodiversity Pledge, joining a global community of financial institutions committed to protecting and restoring biodiversity through their investment activities.
This announcement marks a further step in ILX’s approach to integrating environmental considerations into its investment strategy. As a signatory, ILX will contribute to working groups and knowledge-sharing initiatives aimed at addressing key drivers of biodiversity loss and advancing practical approaches within the financial sector.
Biodiversity considerations are embedded in ILX’s investment approach through its partnerships with multilateral development banks (MDBs) and development finance institutions (DFIs). These partnerships provide access to safeguards, such as IFC Performance Standard 6, and emerging frameworks, including the MDB Common Nature Finance Taxonomy, which translates these principles into investable opportunities for institutional capital.
ILX’s portfolio already demonstrates how biodiversity considerations can be reflected in investment decisions. This includes, for example, financing provided alongside IFC to a Uruguayan company that transforms responsibly sourced wood from responsibly managed forests into high-value industrial and construction products, offering a lower-carbon and less resource-intensive alternative to conventional materials such as cement and steel.

“Institutional Investor demand for scalable, nature-positive investment solutions is accelerating rapidly. Joining the Finance for Biodiversity pledge and community reflects our conviction that nature-related risks and opportunities are becoming increasingly central to long-term investment value creation and effective risk management.” said Luz Martinez, Head of Sustainability at ILX “Our portfolio increasingly demonstrates how investments can help address key drivers of biodiversity loss, such as land and sea-use change, overexploitation of natural resources, and pollution, while supporting real-economy transitions.”
Through its participation in the Finance for Biodiversity community, ILX aims to further strengthen its approach, contribute to industry best practices, and support the mobilisation of institutional capital towards investments that protect and restore nature.
