Supporting Chile’s transition away from coal power

Engie Energía Chile is a leading energy company in Chile, engaged in electricity generation, transmission and supply, with a leading position across industrial and regulated markets.

ILX participated in financing, arranged by IFC, that financed the company’s capital expenditures related to its decarbonisation plan as a part of its Asset Rotation Program. This program consisted of the decommission of Engie’s coal-based plants by 2025 and replacing them with 2.1 GW of renewable energy assets, including a battery energy storage system (BESS) while also re-leveraging existing renewable assets to free up investment cash flows for the company. The transaction has since been terminated.
