Strengthening SME lending capacity in Egypt

Sector: Financials

MDB/DFI Counterpart: EBRD

ILX participated in a secondary B-loan, as part of an EBRD-led financing package, to one of Egypt’s largest private banks. The transaction is ILX’s first subordinated debt exposure in Egypt and its fourth investment in the country.

The additional capital supports the expansion of the bank’s MSME lending, a segment representing a significant share of private sector activity and facing a substantial financing gap of EUR 14 billion. This initiative supports Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy 2030 and the Central Bank’s mandate for MSME lending, fostering entrepreneurship, job creation, and financial inclusion.
