Strengthening maritime infrastructure in Egypt

Sector: Industrials

MDB/DFI Counterpart: EBRD

ILX participated in financing, alongside the EBRD, the construction and operation of a new shipping terminal in Egypt’s Damietta Port. With a capacity of 3.3 million Twenty-foot Equivalent Unit, the terminal will be capable of handling ultra-large container vessels, significantly strengthening connections to regional and international markets. The project contributes to the integration of trade flows across North Africa and the Middle East, while supporting local job creation and targeted training programmes that help the local community build skills required in the ports. Finally, the borrower committed to implement a GHG management plan to reduce emissions associated with handled containers by increasing shipping route efficiency.
