Scaling solar and wind energy in the Dominican Republic
Location: Dominican Republic, Latin America & Caribbean
Sector: Utilities
MDB/DFI Counterpart: IDB Invest

ILX joined IDB Invest in financing a major power company in the Dominican Republic. The transaction supported the design, construction and operation of grid-connected new solar and wind projects, increasing renewable generation capacity from 150 MW to 390 MW. The projects generate over 800 GWh of renewable electricity annually, contributing to a diversification of the country’s energy mix and reducing reliance on fossil fuels, displacing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions estimated at more than 400,000 tCO2 equivalent per year. Additionally, the facility supported the company’s decarbonisation strategy to achieve net zero carbon emissions from electricity sales by 2040. The transaction has since been fully exited.
