Expanding sustainable sugar production in Guatemala

ILX participated with a B-loan led by DEG to one of the largest sugar producers and exporters in Guatemala, with a leading global position in the industry.

The facility supports the construction of a new sugar mill, set to start operations in 2027, enabling a significant increase in production capacity by 150,000 metric tons. The mill will also generate biomass, thereby reducing the company’s coal use and supporting its goal of net zero emissions by 2030. This investment also marks ILX’s first transaction in Guatemala.
