Expanding solar capacity across Uzbekistan

ILX participated in three different B-loans from ADB to three different special purpose vehicles (SPVs): “Nur Samarkand Solar PV” (220 MW), “Nur Jizzakh Solar PV (220 MW)”, “Nur Sherabad Solar PV” (457 MW), established in Uzbekistan to each design, build, and operate one solar power plants. All three projects were awarded to Masdar, a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable urban development.
The three solar power plants will contribute to the scaling up of renewable energy in Uzbekistan, adding roughly 900MW of renewable energy capacity in the country, thereby contributing to climate mitigation and a shift away from fossil fuels and thermal-based generation. The power plants will support economic growth by supporting local jobs and contributing to domestic purchases. Additionally, the projects help promote gender equality by committing to establish an anti-sexual harassment policy, dedicated facilities for women and staff and contractor uptake of gender sensitive training.
