Expanding renewable energy capacity in Argentina

Sector: Utilities

MDB/DFI Counterpart: IDB Invest

ILX participated in an IDB Invest led syndicated senior secured loan to one of Argentina’s leading independent renewable energy platforms. The borrower accounts for over 20% of the country’s wind generation and 12% of its solar generation capacity, operating a diversified portfolio of wind and solar assets with a total installed capacity of approximately 1.8 GW. This is ILX’s first renewable energy investment in Argentina.

The loan supports the expansion of the company’s renewable portfolio through the development of two new solar plants of 129 MW and 180 MW, and two additional solar projects of 20 MW each, as well as a battery energy storage system (BESS) project. These developments contribute to strengthening and diversifying Argentina’s energy security in a context where the country’s sector remains highly dependent on fossil fuels and hydropower, leaving the system vulnerable to fuel supply volatility and hydrological variability. The investment is fully aligned with climate finance objectives, with 100% of proceeds directed toward renewable energy and storage.
