Advancing sustainable aquaculture in Türkiye

Kılıç Deniz is the largest aquaculture player in Türkiye and a major global supplier of seabass and seabream, known for its focus on growing, producing and exporting sustainably certified fish. . The company stands out due to its focus on sustainable practices within the aquaculture value chain, having taken significant steps to be a leader in climate mitigation and adaptation. This has resulted in their aquaculture activities having been certified by GLOBALG.A.P and the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC)[SG5.1][LM5.2]. Their carbon emissions are measured to be ~40% lower than the industry average

ILX participated in financing that supports Kiliç Deniz’s growth and climate adaptation strategy. Loan proceeds, amongst others, support the expansion into new farming sites in the Black Sea, focusing on optimal climate adaptation strategies for fish farmers and sensitivity to climate effects. Through the loan, Kiliç Deniz can scale sustainable fish production, reduce exposure to climate risks, and contribute to the transition toward lower-carbon and more adaptive food systems.
