Advancing sustainable agri-processing in Africa

MDB/DFI Counterpart: IFC

ILX participated with a syndicated loan originated by the IFC to a leading agri-commodities group operating across Africa and Asia. This investment represents ILX’s second participation in a loan to the group, building on a prior Sustainability-Linked Loan arranged by FMO.

Through its participation, ILX supports the expansion of the group’s edible oil processing plants in Malawi, Rwanda, and Zambia, directly addressing supply gaps and reducing import dependency, thereby enhancing regional food security. The financing enables increased access to markets for smallholder farmers, providing extension services, training, and agricultural inputs. With a focus on women’s participation in the workforce and supply chain, the investment promotes gender equality while creating additional jobs and enhancing value addition in local economies. The project addresses climate mitigation through a coal phase-out plan by transitioning to biomass, while also incorporating climate-smart farming and resilience-building for smallholders.
