Advancing inclusive banking and green finance in El Salvador

Sector: Financials

MDB/DFI Counterpart: IFC

Banco Agrícola is the largest and oldest full-service commercial bank in El Salvador, with a dominant position in the country’s banking sector and a strong nationwide presence. A subsidiary of the parent Grupo Bancolombia, the bank operates over 993 branches, covering 56% of the country.

ILX participated in financing that supported the bank’s expansion of lending to MSMEs, WSMEs, low- and middle-income housing, and climate-smart assets, including green buildings and housing. This enabled a significant increase in access to finance across these segments, supporting small business growth, improving access to housing for low- and middle-income households, and scaling climate-smart investments. The transaction has since been terminated.
