Accelerating climate-focused lending in Georgia

TBC Bank is the leading bank in Georgia, founded in 1992. As part of its green lending portfolio, the bank prioritises renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, contributing towards climate change mitigation efforts in Georgia by decarbonising the energy system, which accounts for ~63% of national emissions as of 2017.
ILX invested in a subordinated loan originated by FMO to support TBC Bank’s capital base and enable further growth of its green lending portfolio, expected to grow at 10-12% per annum. Through this, the financing supports a shift towards lower-carbon energy generation while strengthening the bank’s capacity to scale sustainable financing in the country.
