Why did you join ILX?
I joined ILX because I wanted to join a company where I could help build and see the direct results of my efforts. In addition, I wanted to be somewhere where my learning curve would be and stay steep. These aspects, in combination with the clear impact mission, made it an opportunity I could not resist. After being here for a year and a half, I can confirm that it did not disappoint.
What makes ILX stand out as an employer?
The combination of having an extremely diverse, motivated team (15 different countries out of 25 people!), the full freedom to solve challenges as you see fit, and the active challenge to contribute to making a scale-up a success. The expectations are high and the priorities are always moving but that’s what makes it fun for me. And let’s be serious, when do you get the chance to work on building a new asset manager which is also helping the world!? That does not happen often.
What motivates you in your work?
Investing in impactful emerging market debt is often perceived as unattractive from a risk-return perspective. However, by actively establishing a track record that demonstrates otherwise, ILX is doing something new. I am motivated to contribute to this change of perception by helping expand ILX’s track record, all while achieving the targeted returns for our investors.
What makes ILX stand out as an employer?
ILX generates a lot of exposure for a relatively small company. This facilitates unique learning experiences by connecting employees from all disciplines in different stages of their careers with experienced experts inside and especially outside of the company. Furthermore, the scale-up phase ILX is in provides ample opportunity for an individual to make an impact. The people working at ILX are driven by the company’s purpose, making the ambition in the office palpable. Last but not least, ILX is willing to invest in their employees and is open to listening to their needs, creating a close community.
What makes ILX stand out as an employer?
ILX stands out because it combines the mission-driven focus of impact investing with the dynamic, hands-on environment of a smaller firm. One of the things I appreciate most is the short decision-making lines—everyone’s input is valued, and you’re encouraged to speak up and take ownership, regardless of your title.
It’s also been a lot of fun, as an expat from Sweden, to work for a Dutch-owned company with such an international outlook. Our team brings together perspectives from all over the world, which makes the work more enriching and the culture more inclusive.
Anything else you would want to share
Just that I’m genuinely glad I made the move to ILX. It’s not always easy finding a role that challenges you professionally, aligns with your values, and surrounds you with great people, but I feel like I’ve found that here.
Also, for anyone considering a career in impact investing or looking to join a purpose-driven team: don’t underestimate the value of working somewhere where your voice matters. Whether you’re in operations, portfolio management, or finance—like me—you’re part of something meaningful.
Why did you join ILX?
I decided to join ILX because I’m passionate about working with emerging markets and contributing to ILX’s impact strategy. I’m committed to development finance, especially in regions facing real challenges. Traveling to low-income countries like Togo showed me just how urgent the need is for investment in things like education, energy, infrastructure, and financial inclusion. That experience really strengthened my drive to help these communities grow.
What motivates you in your work?
What motivates me is working on a mix of projects across different sectors, like sustainable infrastructure and financial inclusion. I enjoy digging into the details of each one, understanding the risks and spotting opportunities. It’s also exciting to look at the bigger picture—how macro and geopolitical factors play into each deal. This variety keeps me learning and lets me contribute to projects that really make a difference.
