Expansion of renewable energy capacity in Argentina

ILX participated in a B-loan as part of an IDBi-led syndicated senior secured loan to Genneia, Argentina’s largest independent renewable energy platform, accounting for over 20% of the country’s wind generation and 12% of its solar generation capacity. The company operates a diversified portfolio of wind and solar assets with a total installed capacity of approximately 1.8 GW. This marks ILX’s first renewable energy investment in Argentina.

The corporate finance loan supports expansion of Genneia’s renewable portfolio through the development of the 129 MW San Juan Sur solar farm, the 180 MW San Rafael solar farm, two additional 20 MW solar projects in Buenos Aires Province, and a battery energy storage system (BESS) project. These developments will strengthen and diversify Argentina’s energy security.

The investment is fully aligned with climate finance objectives, with 100% of proceeds directed toward renewable energy and storage, generating over 730 GWh of renewable electricity annually and avoiding approximately 365,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.
