Discussion Themes
EMDE SDG financing gaps: with just five years left to reach the SDG and only 16% of the 169 targets on track at a global level, FfD4 must spur bold action to reverse widening financing gaps and adopt ambitious commitments to mobilize large-scale and long-term finance to drive sustainable economic growth in EMDEs.
Development Finance as a scalable Asset Class: MDBs are critical in mobilizing private capital for EMDEs by leveraging their status, local presence, risk mitigation tools, and risk data platforms like GEMs. By shifting to an “originate-to-share” model, MDBs can unlock large scale, well diversified, high impact and attractive investment opportunities, placing private capital mobilization at the core of their private sector finance strategies.
Sustainable Investment Opportunity for Pension Funds and SWFs: investing in development finance as an asset class originated by MDBs offers pension funds and other institutional investors unique portfolio diversification, impact at scale and attractive risk-return characteristics.
