Enhancing sustainable and efficient transport in Türkiye

Sector: Industrials

MDB/DFI Counterpart: IFC

Arkas Holding is a family-owned Turkish shipping conglomerate operating across the maritime, logistics, and infrastructure value chain. Having reduced its carbon footprint by 25% since 2011, achieving up to 8% fuel savings and a 98% reduction in sulphur oxide emissions, the company stands out for its commitment to sustainability.

ILX participated with a B-loan participation led by the IFC to Arkas Holding. Loan proceeds strengthen the expansion of the company’s logistics and transportation infrastructure, including the expansion of Autoport, which is Türkiye’s second-largest roll-on/roll-of terminal, and support the company’s entry into the railway logistics sector through the acquisition of locomotives and the development of the country’s first private inland rail port. Together, these initiatives are expected to increase competitiveness in Türkiye’s logistics sector and improve access to transport services. Additionally, the investment supports the development of sustainable transport infrastructure by enhancing investments in hybrid-electric locomotives and low-emission vessels.
